GROUPON EXPLOSION

As you all know, I recently offered an amazing deal on Groupon. It was a complete success and I sold out all 500 portrait sessions in under six hours!! Thank you to everyone who participated and I can't wait to photograph you all!

EVENT :: WESTLAKE FACES TRUNK SHOW & SPRING PARTY { MELISSA GLYNN PHOTOGRAPHY : TEXAS PHOTOGRAPHER }

I had the pleasure of attending Westlake Faces' Trunk Show and Spring Party on March 3rd, and it was a huge success. Several companies participated in the evening to make it fabulous... obviously, me and Westlake Faces (WLF), but also My Fit Foods, Water2Wine, Jessica's Traveling Boutique and more. There were several prizes that were raffled off throughout the evening including spa treatments from WLF, gift certificates from local clothing boutiques and jewelers, and I even gave away a Bridget Boudoir Session to one lucky lady.

I was sitting at home today and realized that I had several of my favorite things sitting close to me... and thought I should share them with the world. First, I was looking at my library and thought that I would share a few of my favorite books with you all. These are books that had huge impacts in my life, made me laugh, made me cry, and moved me to action. I highly recommend you pick one or all of them up if you're looking for a great book.

Next, it's my favorite time of the year... well, one of four of my favorite times. The new Martha Stewart Weddings is on news stands and it's a beauty! I LIVE for these magazines. I actually have a collection of them that dates back to 2005. Yep, it's true. So, go pick up your copy today!!



One of the simplest pleasures in life that I often overlook are flowers. They can bring cheer to anyone and everyone...even if they're not yours. I recently went on a date (that's right... a date) where we had a picnic at Townlake. When I got there, he had an arm full of lillies and daisies waiting for me (MAJOR bonus points). The best part though was making the walk back to my car with the flowers in tow. I watched as almost every single woman who came across my path smiled a sincere smile of appreciation and maybe a little bit of envy. So, men... if you're reading this... make a note, ALL women like flowers. ALL. Even those of us who say we don't really care for them... we still enjoy their company. So, go get your lady some flowers today!!

WEDDING TIPS :: 10 BEAUTY TIPS FOR WEDDING DAY MAKEUP { MELISSA GLYNN PHOTOGRAPHY : TEXAS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER }

I was recently reading Professional Photographer Magazine when I came across this amazing article that I just HAD to share with all of you. This article will help to ensure that your wedding day makeup is flawless and provides you with some amazing photos. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!!

Here are 10 beauty tips from makeup artist Steve Moore of The Moore Agency in Atlanta and Deanna Rene of Scottsdale, Arizona and a few from Phoenix based photographer Holly Schumacher.

1.  BLEND, BLEND, BLEND. You can use your everyday makeup, but use more than you normally use every day. Many makeup professionals use airbrush makeup, the method of choice for high-definition TV, because it's lightweight, waterproof and gives flawless coverage.

2.  SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE.  Use less makeup for a day wedding and more for evenings. You can get dramatic with eye makeup.

3. DON'T SKIMP ON CONCEALER.  Use a moisturized concealer on the thin, sensitive skin under the eyes. If your concealer isn't moisturizing, blend it with a skin cream. For blemishes, first treat them with a natural or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory, then cover with concealer.

4.  DO A MAKEUP TRIAL RUN.  It's the only sure-fire, stress-free way to make certain your makeup will look beautiful. (A little side note from me... if you're doing a Bridal Session, this is the PERFECT time to trial run your makeup. That way you can see how the makeup will look in your photos too!)

5. NOT ALL MINERAL MAKEUP IS CREATED EQUAL.  Titanium dioxide, a chemical used as sun block, can reflect flash, giving the bride a ghostly appearance. In 2009 makeup artist Annie May launched a line of mineral makeup especially formulated for photography called Advanced Mineral Makeup. May promises it won't white-out the bride under a flash.

6.  USE WATERPROOF MAKEUP WITH STAYING POWER.  You don't want to spend your reception in the bathroom reapplying your makeup. Foundation, eyeliner and mascara all should be waterproof. And in case you cry (and you probably will), have a tissue or handkerchief handy to gently blot your tears right at the eye.

7.  KEEP YOUR LIPS MOISTURIZED AND COLORED.  Dry lips look dreadful in photos. Have someone carry your lipstick for you and touch up often. Matte and gloss lipstick both photograph well, and be sure to use blended lip liner for enhanced definition.

8.  DON'T FORGET THE GROOM.  If the groom is red faced due to too much sun (or drinking), a little powder can help. That goes for shiny heads too. And it's a good idea to slip a tube of Chapstick in the groom's pocket for his dry lips, as well as a handkerchief to dab well-wishers' makeup smudges off his suit.

9.  DON'T SPRINKLE ON GLITTER.  In photographs, it tends to look like little white spots, as if there's something wrong with the camera.

10.  REMEMBER to apply foundation and powder to your neck, shoulders and decolletage - you want your head to look like it belongs to your body!
